The Stitch and Sew Life Skills Station is a thoughtfully designed activity centre that recreates the familiar experience of sewing, mending, and textile crafts, providing meaningful engagement for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Ideal for memory care, long-term care, adult day programs, and senior living communities, this station encourages residents to reconnect with lifelong skills that once brought creativity, purpose, and pride.

For many older adults, sewing was more than a hobby—it was a part of everyday life. Mending clothing, sewing buttons, organizing thread, selecting fabrics, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and creating handmade items were valued skills practiced for decades. The Stitch and Sew Life Skills Station offers a variety of hands-on activities that promote cognitive stimulation, fine motor coordination, sensory engagement, attention, sequencing, and problem-solving. Residents can explore fabrics, organize sewing notions, match colours, sort buttons, wind thread, or participate in simple sewing-inspired activities independently, with family members, or during one-on-one and group programming.
